Employee Benefits

As an employee of Barnfield you are entitled to a wide range of benefits and services in addition to your basic salary:

Holidays

The annual leave year runs from the 1 September until 31 August of the following year.
Basic leave entitlements will accrue in each full year as follows:

Teaching staff
35 days

Business support staff
20 rising to 25 days after 5 years

In addition, all posts receive 8 bank holidays, 4 statutory days and days between Christmas Eve and New Year.

Child Care Vouchers

The College offers Childcare Vouchers.  These are flexible and you can use them to pay for a wide range of childcare. They are non-taxable and exempt from NI contributions and could help to significantly reduce the cost of your childcare.

Pension Scheme

According to the nature of appointment, employees have an opportunity to join either the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) or the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS). Both schemes provide an annual pension on retirement together with a lump sum based on final salary and length of contributory service.

Training and Development

At Barnfield we are committed to the continuing professional and personal development of all our staff to support the College Vision and to excel in everything we do.

Three staff development days scheduled over the year provide extensive opportunities for staff to maintain and develop skills and expertise. At the end of the academic year staff there is a staff conference held at one of our campuses.

Teaching staff are required to evidence a minimum of 30 hours Continuous Professional Development per academic year. Staff, new to teaching are required to obtain a teaching qualification, provided by our award winning in-house teacher training team and the University of Bedfordshire.

Key Worker Housing Initiative

If you are a teacher in Further Education you could obtain help to buy your first home or move into a family home. Opportunities are also available to rent homes at affordable prices. Eligibility varies across regions depending on local recruitment and retention priorities. WorkWell

The College promotes a positive attendance culture and there are a range of policies and procedures to support staff who are unwell or who have disabilities. The College operates a generous occupational sick pay scheme.

First Care

The College’s contract with First Care will provide you with immediate health advice from Occupational Health nurses when reporting an absence, and is also available to support you with any health problems 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

HSA

HSA Healthplans are now available to employees. Choose from five different levels of cover and make just one payment from as little as £2.10 a week.

First Assist

EmployeeCare provides you with 24 hour health and well- being services including counselling plus legal and financial information, 365 days a year.

Car Parking Provision

Free car parking is available at all our campuses.

Catering Facilities

On-site catering facilities are available at all our campuses. Café B and the Brasserie at Barnfield New Bedford Road are run by students from the Hospitality Department.

Hair, Beauty and Holistic Therapies

Beauty and hairdressing treatments are available at discounted rates for staff.
