Barnfield is a further education institution, with impeccable credentials as a provider of English language learning. Barnfield is officially graded as ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED, the independent UK Office for Standards in Education.
 

Barnfield’s main site is in Luton, the largest town in Bedfordshire, a rural county 60 kilometres north of London.  

 

Luton, is situated within easy reach of central London, with fast trains every 15 minutes from Luton to London St Pancras and a journey time of 45 minutes. Luton has its own airport, London Luton, with direct flights by EasyJet from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen as well as many other European destinations. Barnfield College is ten minutes’ walk from Luton railway station and fifteen minutes by bus from the airport. Additionally Barnfield College is 10 minutes’ walk from Luton bus station, with connections to London and the nearby towns of Dunstable, St Albans and Bedford.

IELTS Preparation Courses 2011


This is an intensive summer course for 14-18 year-olds at intermediate level of English or above. Our course offers a varied, comprehensive programme covering all of the skills you require to improve your examination performance.

 
Course Overview:


The Academic English programme is a full-time IELT preparation course for students at intermediate level or above.  Students study up to 20 hours of English in the classroom, with further language development achieved through extra-curricular activities and study tours. Students develop the four key language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, within an academic context.  The programme is integrated with a full timetable of extra-curricular activities, each week, as part of the course; students visit one of the UK’s historic towns or cities, such as London, Cambridge, or Oxford.  The aim of the tours is to give students an insight into British life and culture.


Students are prepared for the IELTS examination by:


Learning the essential vocabulary required for the IELTS qualification
Exploring key concepts
Acquiring valuable study skills


Other skills covered include:


Listening and note taking (understanding lectures);
Academic reading and writing (e.g. scanning and skimming; identifying main ideas and details; summarising)

English and activities programme


We offer an exciting calendar of social and cultural activities in and out of the school and weekend excursions.  Each week as part of the course, students visit one of the historic towns or cities to give them an insight into British history and culture.


Accommodation


Our students will stay and attend their English sessions at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa, a magnificent and classically English country house. It is situated within easy reach of central London, with fast trains every 15 minutes to London St Pancras.

The house originates from as early as 1601 and is directly associated with at least three British monarchs and indirectly linked to three more.  Our partnership with Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa, one of the finest locations in Britain, is intended to provide students with an unforgettable experience of classic England.
