The Federation is made up of Barnfield College, Barnfield South and West Academies, Moorlands Free School and the country’s first FE sponsored Studio School. Barnfield is a Beacon College, graded "Outstanding" by Ofsted, an Investor in People (IiP) Gold Champion and the WorldSkills leader for the eastern region.

In September 2007, Barnfield broke new ground by being the first Further Education College in the country to sponsor two significantly underperforming secondary schools, create academies and form a federation. In under three academic years, GCSE results have more than tripled in both academies and from a position of special measures, they are now judged as ‘Outstanding’ and ‘Good’ by Ofsted. These are the highest results achieved in the history of these schools.

In order to further develop and expand the Federation a new Barnfield trust model has been created.

As a federation Barnfield strives for excellence in all that we do, keeping the student centre stage at all times. The outstanding and inspirational leadership Barnfield has provided has successfully transformed the Academies, with exceptional results;

West Academy

• 100% of students received 5A* - C grades (without English & Maths) - an increase of 52% in 3 years

• 55% of students received 5A* - C grades (with English & Maths)

• Named as the most improved secondary school in the country

South Academy

• 62% of students received 5A* - C grades (without English & Maths) - an increase of 41% in 2 years

• 38% of students received 5A* - C grades (with English & Maths)

• Named as one of the most improved secondary schools in the country

Barnfield Studio School

The first of its kind in the world, in September 2010 Barnfield proudly opened the Barnfield Studio school. A full-time 14-19 Studio School offering a practical work-related learning environment designed to equip young entrepreneurs with the enterprise and employability skills to be successful. Pre-16 and post-16 students are taught a unique personalised curriculum proven to maximise their strengths. The two year pilot that preceded the official launch delivered astounding results;

• All students achieved an average of nine GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*-C

• 100% students successfully gained their Business qualification
