Adult Community Learning
The Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy Department at Barnfield attracts learners ranging from 16 - 70.
The department is keen to encourage all adults in need of developing their skills in the areas of literacy and numeracy. All learners are offered an individual interview and assessment. This allows the learners to discuss any concerns they may have. Many of our learners have often not accessed any form of education since leaving school.
We pride ourselves on our approachable and empathetic communication. Our learners are taught by highly trained and experienced tutors.
The tutors are committed to the college ethos which is to break down barriers to learning and to make learning a fulfilling and successful journey for all.
Progression and Employment
Students from this department have gone on to achieve many higher qualifications - including Foundation and Honours Degrees. Many have secured employment as within some of the town's residential care professions, schools and colleges and retail.
Location
Based at Barnfield's York Street Campus you will have access to all of the College's excellent facilities including a restaurant and a resource centre where there is an allocated study and computer area.
The Barnfield Experience
"The course has helped with my future plans and study in two ways. I can now write essays confidently and I have improved in my numeracy. This has helped me to secure a place on the access course next year, which will enable me to go to university and do a midwifery course."
